Stop. Take a moment to relax your muscles. Take a deep breath in and close your eyes. Just for a moment, imagine you’re out of the city, away from the hustle and bustle, sitting in the beautiful peace and quiet of Ontario’s cottage country. With a warm cup of tea in your hands, look around and smell the beautiful fresh aroma of the countryside.
Sorry to break the immersion. We thought we’d do something a little different this week. We wanted to do something fun amidst all the craziness that’s going on right now. This week, we are featuring a beautiful property in Buckhorn, Ontario and just imagining ourselves running away from the city and embracing the cottage country life. The property was formerly managed as a bed and breakfast before going on the market.
There are plenty of benefits of living in the city. First and foremost is the overwhelming convenience that city life brings you. Amenities, shops, restaurants and activities are all available in a manageable radius. Additionally, with a higher population, there is a higher chance that friends and family are close by. Consider, however, the opportunity to create your own community without the noise and bustle of city living. Think about it: even though you live in close proximity to your friends, you may not always have the time to visit them or vice versa. The busy lifestyle that city dwelling demands can be taxing on your social life.
Imagine, instead, creating your own community. Though the population may be small and some folk may only be around during the summer months, there is still a rich closeness in many countryside counties. Everybody knows everybody in a small town, for better or worse. But we like to think it's far better to know your neighbors. Picture this: you drive to the local grocery store, owned by a couple who lives a few miles from you. They smile and you both chat about visiting family. You directly support their business and are able to buy local produce, further supporting the local community.
Cottage season. It’s a time honored tradition in Ontario to escape the city for a vacation in the serenity of the countryside. Hanging out by the lake, cooking smores on a fire, and a huge family BBQ are all coveted pastimes for many Toronto residents. Now, imagine you living in a property that brings the family together. Whether it’s cottage season or not, your home would be open to your family even if it’s just a quick weekend getaway for them. Becoming a retreat and oasis for family and friends would bring such joy and life to your residence.
In the advent of a post-covid world, working from home is a viable option for many careers. The move to virtual and remote working has meant that proximity to the city is no longer a mandate. Moving outside of the city limits has been a dream for many and for some they are now free to make it a reality.
Just imagine yourself clocking out for the day, walking outside and hearing the loons sing as the wind rustles through the trees. Taking a moment to relax, you are able to destress from a long day at your ‘office’ and shift into your down time with ease.
Picture yourself spending your free days after you retire in a former bed and breakfast. You could live with your entire family and more as you age gracefully and comfortably, surrounded by friends and family. The city isn’t the only place to live anymore. Imagine the smells of cooking on a warm summer’s eve after spending the afternoon at the lake with the kids. You can dig in with all generations of your family as you laugh and enjoy the closeness and comfort everyone brings together.
You could convert one of the suites into a caregiver’s suite to make things easier and safer for yourself. With such a large and extensive property, it wouldn’t require a huge construction investment. Having your family move in with you would be easy as well. Being a multigenerational home where everyone has their own spaces but all have the opportunity come together.
The possibilities are endless.
